Overview

BIM Server is a CUBE add-on that enables a tightly integrated workflow between CUBE's cloud platform and Revit on the desktop. With BIM Server, model authors can open CUBE-hosted Revit files directly in Revit, make changes, and publish the updated version back to CUBE — all without manually downloading, editing, and re-uploading files. This eliminates version confusion and keeps the CUBE file store as the single source of truth for all model versions throughout the project.

Prerequisites

How BIM Server works

BIM Server creates a direct connection between CUBE's file store and Revit. Instead of downloading a file, working on it locally, and re-uploading manually, the workflow is:

  1. Select the file in CUBE — browse to the Revit file in the relevant Space or Folder.
  2. Open in Revit via the plugin — the file is downloaded to Revit automatically through the CUBE Revit Plugin.
  3. Edit in Revit — make all required changes to the model as you normally would in Revit.
  4. Publish back to CUBE — click Upload (or Publish) in the Revit Plugin panel. The updated model is uploaded to CUBE as a new version of the existing file, preserving the full version history.

Installing the CUBE Revit Plugin

  1. Download the CUBE Revit Plugin installer from your Portal Administrator or from the Apps section of the CUBE Help Center.
  2. Run the installer on the Revit workstation. The plugin supports Revit 20XX and later (confirm the compatible Revit version with your Portal Administrator).
  3. After installation, a CUBE tab or panel appears in Revit's ribbon.
  4. In the CUBE panel, log in with your CUBE credentials (email and password).
