Overview

File merging in CUBE allows you to combine two or more files from a Space into a single merged output. This is particularly useful for creating a consolidated drawing set, a combined BIM model, or any composite document that draws from multiple source files, without needing to use external software to merge them.

Once merged, the resulting file is stored in CUBE as its own file entry with its own version history. Critically, if any of the constituent source files receives a new version, the merged file is automatically re-versioned to reflect the update, keeping the merged output always current.

Prerequisites

• Access to the Space containing the files you want to merge
• Can Create or Update Version or Full Access on the folder
• The files to be merged must be of compatible types (e.g., DWG + DWG, or IFC + IFC depending on your portal's merge configuration)
• All the files must belong to the same Space. Merging files that sit in different Spaces is not supported

A file received through a transmittal must be consumed into the Space before it can be merged. Consume it from the transmittal that delivered it, after which it becomes eligible for merging.

An empty container can also be merged, either with other empty containers or with BIM and CAD files.

Creating a Merged File

1. In Folders, open the Space and then the folder containing the files you want to merge.
2. Select the files you want to merge using the checkboxes in the file list.
3. In the toolbar or action menu, click Merge Files (or Create Merged File).
4. Enter a name for the merged file.
5. Choose the destination folder in the Space where the merged file should be saved.
6. Click Create / Merge.

CUBE will process the merge and create the merged file in the selected folder. Processing time depends on the file size and type.

Automatic Version Updates

When any constituent file (one of the source files used in the merge) receives a new version, CUBE automatically triggers a new version of the merged file. This means:
