Overview
A Takeoff in CUBE is a collection of measured values taken from 2D drawings or 3D models using CUBE's estimation tools. Takeoffs group related measurements together under a single unit type, allowing quantities to be systematically fed into the Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for cost calculation.
Takeoffs are the link between raw measurements and your estimate — they transform drawing/model data into structured quantities that drive the BOQ.
Prerequisites
- An Estimate must exist with at least one file (2D drawing or 3D model) associated with it.
- The file must be open inside the Estimate for measurement tools to be available.
- You must have editor-level access to the Estimate.
What a Takeoff Contains
Each Takeoff has:
- A Name and optional Description
- A Measurement Type (linear, area, volume, or count) — all measurements in a Takeoff must share the same type
- A Unit (e.g., m, sqm, cum, Each)
- A list of Measurements assigned to it
- One or more Associated Items from the BOQ
Creating a Takeoff
There are two approaches:
Approach 1 — Create the Takeoff first, then measure
- Open the Estimate and go to the Files tab. Open the relevant file.
- Click the Takeoff icon in the left sidebar to open the Takeoff panel.
